A letter from ULI Mexico’s Charmain
Do you want to build happier cities and communities? We do. In order to achieve this, we need to start focusing on how we want people to feel in our buildings and communities.
We stand in front of a unique opportunity to positively influence Land Use and Urban Development in Mexico, a country that is going through a profound transformation and questioning its status quo. As ULI members we have a responsibility to influence Government and Policymakers towards the sustainable and responsible use of land and the creation of thriving communities.
I have no doubt that Sir Winston Churchill’s statement that “We shape our buildings, and afterward, our buildings shape us,” is truer now than it was 75 years ago. In an increasingly urban world, it is a fact that people who live and work in environmentally conscious buildings, well designed and located with sun exposure and proper air quality are happier and more productive than those who are in dark, enclosed and remote buildings. It is in our hands as developers, architects, and urban policymakers to influence the lives of people on an everyday basis and for the long term.
We cannot expect to accomplish these goals without training and empowering young professionals in our industry, who are the future of our communities. Also by recognizing and empowering the role women have in our industry and in our communities. That is why my main goals, as President of ULI Mexico, include influencing responsible Land Use and Urban Development in Mexico, growing our Young Leaders program and strengthening our Women’s Leadership Initiative.
Our multidisciplinary team of professionals and specialists with extensive experience in land, urban and community development will help us achieve these goals. ULI is defined by its members so I want to invite you to join us in transforming our country in this unique and historical moment. I know that now is the time when our proposals can be heard and we can influence our future like at no other point in time. At ULI we are eager to have you help us in this challenging and motivating endeavor. Are you ready to be part of this change? Because at ULI we are. The time has come.
